The Graduate School Office of Postdoctoral Affairs (OPA) offers a limited number of travel grants with a maximum of $750 to UT Austin postdoctoral fellows.
These travel awards enable postdoctoral scholars to present their scholarly work at professional conferences and meetings. We also encourage awardees to engage in professional development opportunities offered by the conference/meeting.
Eligibility
- Must have an employee postdoctoral appointment at The University of Texas at Austin at the time of the application and the time of travel. Postdocs who are externally funded are not eligible to apply for this travel grant.
- Grants are limited to one award per person within 12 calendar months.
- Funds are awarded to postdoctoral scholars who have been selected to present their research or scholarly work at a professional meeting, conference or symposium. The following types of presentations will be considered for funding:
- To apply for this travel grant you must have attended at least two events organized by the UT Austin Office of Postdoctoral Affairs and/or UT Austin Postdoctoral Association during the period prior to your application.
- Postdocs are ineligible to apply during the first four months of their employment.
Deadlines
- Feb. 1 for conferences/professional meetings held May 1 - Aug. 31
- June 1 for conferences/professional meetings held Sept. 1 - Dec. 31
- Sept. 1 for conferences/professional meetings held Jan. 1 - April 31
Announcements will be made two weeks after each deadline.
Required Application Materials
- Complete the Travel Grant Application. The following information will be requested as part of the application:
- A brief statement articulating how participation in this conference/professional meeting will impact your scholarly activities and career and professional development. Include any additional professional development you will attend at this conference (400 words max).
- Title of the presentation, list of authors and abstract text for conference or professional meeting (250 words).
- Proof that your talk has been accepted for presentation at the conference (examples include, but are not limited to, an email, letter or invitation).
- A brief description of your involvement with the UT Austin postdoctoral community to include at minimum two events organized by the UT Austin Office of Postdoctoral Affairs and/or UT Austin Postdoctoral Association that you have attended (250 words or less).
- Current CV not to exceed three pages. Required components include educational background, honors and awards, University service, funding (if applicable), publications, conferences attended and presentations.
- Name of an individual supervising your postdoctoral activities to provide a letter in support of your attendance of the conference/meeting. OPA will solicit the letter directly from the recommender.
Review Criteria
- Evidence of progress in postdoctoral scholarship at UT as indicated by the CV, impact statement and letter of reference.
- Evidence that the conference/professional meeting is relevant to your field of study and will be impactful for your career and professional development.
NOTE: If the application is for support of registration fee for a virtual conference, then the award will cover only the registration fee not to exceed $750.
The decision of the judging panel is final.
